eXtreme Polka!

Wow! There is a listing for "EXTREME POLKA" on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia!!
Even though this page has been put together as a farce, it's still fun none the less.eXtreme Polka Death Metal bands!
Looks like eXtreme Polka is finding it's way in places that I never imagined, and that is an incredible thing.
If anyone has this actual recording of "Extreme Polka: Live at Red Rocks" let me know!ANd if you want a great album featuring "polka for the under 30 crowd" then buy "Extreme Polka" on Cleveland's Internationl Records. Not only can you hear The Polkaholics® but Polkacide and Brave Combo as well.

Pictures from Miss Lis!

Miss lis took some way cool pictures of us at last nights show- and has posted them on her Blog.

check 'em out!

Thank you to Lis and to eveyone else who came out- hell I even got up on the bar and played!

FREE show Tonight

Lincoln Square Lanes, 9pm
4874 N. Lincoln Ave. (above the Ace Hardware store), (773) 561-8191.
To kick off the Memorial Day Weekend, we’ll be back at our favorite bowling alley for a super great show with the unbelievable Irish band Ceann Na Caca from Pittsburgh. Ceann Na Caca play “Yankee-Irish Drinking Music,” whereas The Polkaholics play “Polka Drinking Music,” so it's sure to be a battle of the cultures, with both bands playing their hearts (or at least, livers) out for your drinking and dancing pleasures!! So c’mon out and start the Memorial Day Weekend right – with polka, beer, and bowling!

(thanks to Dandy Don!!)

Happy Birthday Mrs. Wallace!

Today my wife's birthday, I sent her a huge mylar ballon- that sings!- with a picture of a half naked woman on it.
Hee hee!! She called me and I could hear it singing in the background, her co-workers were laughing.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MRS. WALLACE!!!

High Praise!

Check out this great review of our latest album!
Polka über Alles
(The Polkaholics, [self-published, no number], released 2006) They're the MC5 of polkas, continuing to assault the ears of fans who pack into clubs throughout the Chicago area to hear them. Their sound is loud, aggressive guitar rock. Their tunes are interesting; mostly written by the band or traditional polkas with new words by leader Dandy Don Hedecker. If you like your polkas played at a volume that can melt concrete, you'll love the Polkaholics. As for me, I'm too old for this. C [5-20-06] [Available through the band's merchandise site: stores.ebay.com/polkascene]

Thank you to eveyone that came out on Friday night and danced to the polka music surrounded by objetcs that would have set some of you back 20+ years had they been broken or damaged. I jumped in the air during one of our songs and my foot made conatact with a $20,000 door (and this was the SALE price) but luckily nothing was damaged by us or any of the polka fans.
And speaking of fans thanks to Noah, Scott and Gina who came all of the way from New Orleans to see The Polkaholics®!

SHOP WITH A SOUNDTRACK

Hey- for those of us that can not stand Ronnie "Woo Woo" Wickers (seriously what is that man's problem!?) and have no desire to see the Cubs lose yet another in a long string of losses at tonight Cross Town Classic- or for those of you that think a grown man who wears a super hero costume (complete with actual white socks for ears) and calls himself "Sox Man" (see today's Red Eye) and prances around the stands may I suggest this alternative??
Take advantage of a rare opportunity to shop for stained glass windows while listening to the Polkaholics tonight at the free sneak preview party for Architectural Artifacts Spring Sale, 4325 N. Ravenswood. The semi-annual sale is a favorite of designers, architects and treasure seekers from across the country. The entire inventory, from garden decor to Art Nouveau tiles, is on sale. The 8,000 square foot showroom includes an open air courtyard and a four-story atrium complete with foot bridges. The sneak preview party with the Polkaholics begins at 6 p.m. and the sale runs through May 28. Call (773) 348-0622; www.architecturalartifacts.com.

And for the record : GO WHITE SOX!!

Toora, loora, toora loorye aye

Remember Dexy's Midnight Runners? They of the "Come on Eileen" fame? They of the " Toora, loora, toora loorye aye " fame? The band that wanted to be a soul band but just couldn't quite cut it?
I heard "Come on Eileen" on the radio today and it made me wonder what ever happened to them and if they had any other songs besides the aforementioned infectious ditty...and if my biased opinion of "this bands sucks!!" has any merit.
Before drugs, alcohol, depression, producers mucking with their songs, lineup changes and lots of shoplifting all took their toll on the band they had a few hits in the UK, and something else that I found out after doing a little digging is that the original founding members, Kevin Rowland and Kevin Archer, were from the Killjoys (a Birmingham, UK punk band)
So what were those other hits?
"Burn It Down", "Geno", "Searching For The Young Soul Rebels", "There There My Dear" and quite possibly the worst song ever written "Keep It Pt2".
Kevin Rowland was declared bankrupt in 1990 and when not battling depression or snorting cocaine up his nose has been dabbling in various forms of music, his last album came out in 1999 and sold a whopping 500 copies!
It appears that critics and the press have not had much nice to say about the band since 79 and neither do I.
They still suck!
Turns out a Richard White has penned a book about the band, titled "Young Rebel Souls: Dexys Midnight Runners" that came out in October, and in 2004 a live DVD was released.

Great Review!

Thanks to The PEN (Polka E News) for tipping their hat to the eXtreme Polka Madness!

CNA Insurance Polkaholics Advert

Over a year ago we were asked if we wanted to be in a "Kooky fun ad for an insurance company..." and since they were paying us to just clown around in front of the camera for a couple of hours we said, "Heck yeah!" Well the photos were taken, we signed the model release forms and then almost two years later forgot all about it. Until today when Wayne Kusy sent me a copy of the ad.
Thanks Wayne! Jackson and I look pretty darn good!!
