Polka Uber Alles

The CD Release party for Polka Uber Alles was a success on so many levels! First of all Wild Man Wilson came all the way from Minneapolis to see the show! He took some great pictures and video. Thank you so much Wild Man, it was a blast to hang out with you.
Secondly Martyr's was packed with dancing, drinking, smiling people.
Everyone who paid to get in received a raffle ticket for the Free Epiphone Les Paul Jr. guitar -- we stopped counting at 294 people, so who knows how many were actually there-- Congrats to Olga for winning the guitar! I can't think of a better polka name than that, can you? Way to go Olga.
Thirdly the opening band Insidious Rays were a fun band and extremely nice fellows to boot- thanks for the T-shirt!
And how about the new outfits!?! The Pepto Pink tuxedo shoes, the black ruffled shirts and the awesome pink sequined vests and bow ties! Vera made the vests and the bow ties all by herself- thanks Vera! I think that we looked great on Saturday!! As well all know it's one thing to play the polka but one also has to look the polka as well- and we were all "Looking Good".
And lastly Martyr's was great to us! From the free beer and bottled water to the private dressing room, the incredible light show and the awesome sound system, and the friendly staff- especially Bruce. Thanks guys!

With “Polka Uber Alles” we continue to push the polka envelope by featuring our own lederhosen-fringed anthems (“Pimps of Polka,” “Beer, Broads, & Brats”), along with inimitable versions of Chicago Polish polka classics (“Stella at the Wheel Polka”) and German oompah-pah favorites (“Let’s Kill Two Beers with One Stein”).  Mix in a tribute to fine polka cuisine (“Sauerkraut is Sweet”) and an homage to the night we brought polka to Chicago’s premier bastion of rock (“Polka at the Metro”), and you’ve got one warped CD!  Make no mistake, this is THE CD to either get the party GOING or END IT (depending on what your friends are like)!

SO, please, Please, PLEASE COME ON OUT AND SUPPORT US AT OUR CD RELEASE PARTY!

Thank You Ms. Kendrick

POLKAHOLICS The Polkaholics are one of those bands that really don't need to make records to keep going. But their new album, the self-released Polka Uber Alles, has a few new variations on the theme (though please tell me they're not intentionally ripping that lick from "Marquee Moon" on "Pimps of Polka"): "Beer, Broads, and Brats," "Polka at the Metro," "Let's Kill Two Beers With One Stein," etc. They're endlessly repetitive but unfailingly exhilarating, and you can't help but root for a joyously dorky party band that's done so much to promote beer-sloshed, rowdy understanding between young punks and old Poles. This show is a benefit for the Leukemia Research Foundation. Nice Peter headlines; the Commodes, the Locals, and Snoozie & the Miltonics open. 8 PM, Subterranean, 2011 W. North, 773-278-6600 or 800-594-8499, $10 in advance, $12 day of show. --Monica Kendrick

The Grammy's

The ONLY good thing to come out of the Grammy's this year was a surprise appearance by Sly Stone.

Well ok- another thing that made the 48th Annual Grammy Awards worth watching...Tera Patrick. Why a porn star was at the awards show is beyond me, but then again does Tera Patrick NEED a reason??

As for the winner of the Polka Grammy, it was Mr. Ass Hat Sturr.
