These Boots Were Made for Sucking

Why is it that attractive women who fancy themselves actresses, seem to think that they are also singers as well, or vice versa?

Take J. Lo for example, if it was not for the wonders of digital music editing I think her music career would be in the toilet, oh wait a minute it's time to flush.

And now Jessica Simpson seems to think that she can shake her ass on screen and that will make up for her lousy cover of Nancy Sinatra's version of "These Boots Were Made For Walkin'" She may have a nice rump but like J. Lo she should just quit while she is ahead. This cover is terrible, I mean it's god awful...not that Nancy Sinatra was a talented singer either but I digress.

Yes Jessica you do look hot in those Daisy Dukes, but it's too bad you had to stoop to showing some skin to sell records.

What's next? Some bubble headed bleach blond singer who wants to act?
Insert sarcasm here_____________

Look At My Striped Shirt

Ah summer. The warm nights, the ball games, the bbq's, convertibles, dining al fresco...and the Lincoln Park Trixie's out if force.

Contrary to popular belief not all Trixie's are strictly female, no there is another, equally as annoying group that I refer to as "Chad's". (Or Todd's depending on the car)

I hate these people- and hate is a strong word my friends. An evening spent with a Chad would include the following: "Look at my button down striped shirt! Fucking look at it! This shirt means one thing! I’m coming home with some pussy tonight!"

I found a superb article that delves into the mind of the aforementioned Chad's typical weekend evening and I suggest that you read it. It's superbly written and completely captures the essence of a Chad.

I hate Chad, and I hate Todd as well. They are anti cool, anti hip and anti smart. I can only hope that they eat my feces and cease to exist.

Im in iTunes music store!

I was shocked to discover that my old band Apartment is on iTunes Music store and that one of our entire albums, The Girls is Not Right, can be downloaded for $9.90.
Mmm someone is getting some cash from this and it's sure isn't me- even though I wrote and copyrighted a few of those songs and have them listed with ASCAP.
Ah those joys of the music biz.
Oh well- go and download this album- I play upright bass on this one- it's a damn good album and I miss being in this bad- we called it quits in April.

Our Government SUCKS!

I originally wanted to title this: FUCK THE USA but I do live here, and enjoy it for the most part but our government has gone too damn far this time!

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that local governments may seize people's homes and businesses -- even against their will -- for private economic development. As a result, cities have wide power to bulldoze residences for projects such as shopping malls and hotel complexes to generate tax revenue.

At least Sandra Day O'Connor has not gone off her rocker like the rest of the judges: She argued that cities should not have unlimited authority to uproot families, even if they are provided compensation, simply to accommodate wealthy developers. "Any property may now be taken for the benefit of another private party, but the fallout from this decision will not be random," O'Connor wrote. "The beneficiaries are likely to be those citizens with disproportionate influence and power in the political process, including large corporations and development firms."

She was joined in her opinion by Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, as well as Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.

How about we bulldoze the damned White House and put up a 7-11?? Or knock down the Supreme Court building and replace it with a fucking outlet mall!?

This just pisses me off.

Some Sad News- Verne Meisner

On June 10th Verne Meisner, whose accordion-propelled polka tunes kept the upper Midwest dancing for 57 years and who won international accolades for his musical skill, died of cancer at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee. He was 66.

Meisner was considered one of the greats in the world of polka, second only to Frankie Yankovic, who gave him his first big break. His Slovenian, or Cleveland-style, polka featured infectious melodies that were widely popular in the world of taverns, dance halls and festivals where the music was a standard celebration of the week's end

Verne Meisner and the Polka Boys made their recording debut in 1958 with "Memories of Vienna", one of Verne's finest and most popular compositions. Verne's recordings include 30 singles, 16 LP albums, and two videos on the Paragon, Leaf, Cuca, VM, Bright, and HG labels. Verne's first album, "A Polka and Waltz Holiday", achieved a 5-Star rating on the Billboard charts.

Among his many honors, Verne was inducted into the International Polka Association's Polka Hall of Fame in Chicago in 1989, was the first polka musician to win the Wisconsin Area Music Industry Award (along with Steve) in 1988, repeated this honor in 1994, and has been commended by the Governor of Wisconsin for his accomplishments. Attesting to his fame, Verne's persona was appropriated by Mary Blayney in her novel, True Colors.

"He set the tone and groundwork for a lot of other musicians and bands. He was a major influence," said Rick Gundrum, vice president of the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame. He was inducted into five polka halls of fame.

Born in Milwaukee, the axis of oompah, grew up with the sound. When he picked up an accordion at age 8, he began playing for neighbors, ice-cream socials and church events. He knew only 10 tunes and would run through them over and over until he learned more, he once told the publication Polka News.

"He had a photographic memory," said his son Steve. "He could remember people's names from 20 years ago and play a song for them. They'd be falling over him. He was always able to get people dancing, even if they weren't a dancing crowd."

Meisner started his own band in 1950, at 11. Five years later, he so impressed the "King of Polka" Yankovic that he briefly traveled with the Yankovic band. He also benefited from airtime on the local "Fritz the Plumber" radio show.

After high school, Mr. Meisner's National Guard unit was activated and he found himself in Tacoma. His after-hours gigs at the officers club and nightspots became so popular that the musicians union began to complain.

Back in Wisconsin, wielding a Milwaukee-made black Baldoni accordion, Mr. Meisner played 200 to 250 dates a year for more than 40 years. His engagements included stands at clubs in Branson, Mo., Las Vegas casinos and Caribbean cruise ships and several European tours.

He made 30 singles, 20 CDs or LPs, and five videos, and wrote more than 60 songs. Over his career, he sold about a million recordings, his son said. His biggest hits were "Memories of Vienna" and "El Rio Drive."

It's about time

Happy First Day of Sumer Everyone!! Summer officially began at 2:46 am Tuesday..and for you science types: In the northern hemisphere, the longest day of the year (near June 22) when the Sun is farthest north. In the southern hemisphere, winter and summer solstices are exchanged. The summer solstice marks the first day of the season of summer. The declination of the Sun on the (northern) summer solstice is known as the tropic of cancer (23° 27').

Sooo Happy

One would think that when a band gets to tour the world, be featured in Rolling Stone and SPIN, and sell lots and lots of albums that they would be happy- right?
Why is it that these Pony kids never smile?

Is this the new hip rock look- Grump- ?? I've yet to see them smile once.

A Perfect Night!

The weather was perfect last night for our 3 sets of People Pleasing Polka at Giddings Plaza in Lincoln Square.

We estimate there were 400 people there- most of them kids!- and the kids had a blast with our two bubble machines and the hula hoop contest.

Dandy Don even won a teaching award and was presented with it last night! He is now the only Polka Playing Statistician recipient in the entire world! Way to go Dandy Don!!

This is second year in a row that we have played this and we hope we can do it again next year!

The Most Extreme Freak of Them All-

Too bad we can't prosecute a person for being a freak.
I was hoping that, after being found guilty, Mr. Jackson would become someone's bitch while incarcerated, and that the entire world may finally be able to see what he actually looks like without all of his makeup and prosthetic face parts.
Oh well.
Mr. Jackson is now a free man but according to CNN/Money "The legendary singer hasn't produced a hit song in years and... some image consultants think Jackson's image has been irreparably harmed by his criminal prosecution. "
No shit- ya think so?? Maybe his image was harmed when he became a mutant white man?
What happened Mike? You used to be a cool black guy- Thriller was a great album!-but now you are some disastrous medical mutation.
"The Michael Jackson brand is effectively dead. There is no second hurrah, and Michael Jackson can never recover from this scandal," said Ronn Torossian, President/CEO of 5W Public Relations, a NYC public relations firm.
Hurray!!!
Perhaps now the Beatles catalog can be owned by an actual Beatle instead of a one man freak show?
"Depending on negotiations with Fortress, the risk that Jackson could lose the copyrights to the Beatles songs as well as his own hit recordings is real."
"Jackson, 46, acquired the Beatles song catalog in 1985 for $47.5 million, outbidding ex-Beatle Paul McCartney... The venture is now believed to be worth more than $400 million."

At least the Germans like us...

As you may recall we were featured on a German Television program last year- and apparently it's being played over and over again in Germany!
Hey maybe we'll be asked to Europe for a true polka party!?

Our good friends from Deutschland have placed a link on the web. Press the button "GMS MediaCenter starten" button to download the ZIP file.

It's a large file- but it's worth it!

You can see Dandy Don being chastised by a woman who obviously feels that we are not polka fans, along with performances from last June at Gidding's Plaza and at Lyon's Den...and it's all in German!
