Baby, it's COLD outside

To say that it is cold out would be the greatest understatement of the year, my friends it is C-O-L-D here in Chicago today. This morning at 7 am the windchill was minus 30 degrees Farenheight! That's fatally cold! With the windchill Chicago was 102 degrees colder than Miami, Florida. DAMN!!
Tonight is the Annual Winter Bike Ride to the Baby Doll Polka Club. and I hope that those bike riders bundle up! This is the 4th year that we have done this and every year it's been packed. Everyone says that we Chicago folk can handle the cold but riding a bike in minus 30 wind chill is pretty damn extreme. I am going to take a lot of pictures tonight of the festivities- I am very excited to play this show tonight but even more excited to meet all of the people who are crazy enough to ride a bike for 15 miles in bone chilling weather!! Kathy Schubert if you are there tonight, please come up and say hi.
As of 1.30 pm it is 1 degree!! Brrrrrrr We are 1 degree warmer than Gnome Alaska!!
If any of the bikers are reading this- please BUNDLE UP

The Polkaboy is sad sad sad

MONTPELIER, Vt. - Bob Keeshan, who gently entertained and educated generations of children as television's walrus-mustachioed Captain Kangaroo, died Friday at 76.

Keeshan, who lived in Hartford, Vt., died of a long illness, his family said in a statement.

Keeshan's "Captain Kangaroo" premiered on CBS in 1955 and ran for 30 years before moving to public
television for six more. It was wildly popular among children and won six Emmy Awards, three Gabriels and
three Peabody Awards.

The format was simple: Each day, Captain Kangaroo, with his sugar-bowl haircut and uniform coat, would
wander through his Treasure House, chatting with his good friend Mr. Green Jeans, played by Hugh "Lumpy"
Brannum.

He was also a decorated war hero...I remember watching his show as a kid, Mr. Green Jeans was so damn cool! Awwww a sad sad sad Polkaboy I be.

5000 Fingers of Doctor T

Ever wondered what 500 little boys playing one giant piano would sound like? Well since it's Friday I urge all of you to run out and rent (hell why not buy) this movie!

Conceived, written and designed by the legendary Dr Seuss, The 5000 Fingers of Dr T is a true cult classic and one of the strangest films for children ever made. Set in suburban America, young Bart is transported to the mysterious and musical world of the evil Dr Terwilliker, a piano teacher-cum-despot with plans to enslave 500 boys to play in unison on his giant piano. With ravishing production design and filmed in Technicolor, this is a perfect family film with plenty to keep the adults amused, too from the hilarious moments of post-War paranoia to Seuss's obsession with Freud and Jung. Fans of The Simpsons should remember that it is no coincidence that their hero is another Bart and that his sworn enemy is one Sideshow Bob Terwilliger!

Remember this schmuck?

Apparently Boobwatch dimwit "Mitch" and Knight Rider clueless boob "Michael Knight" aka David Hasselhoff's own kids think he is a loser- according to this source David Hasselhoff says his own daughters hate his music and change the channel whenever Knight Rider comes on the TV. I think his kids need some free Polkaholics CD's!!

Ok- now I really have seen it all. Johnny Rotten is going to be on a reality show. Then again we all new punk was dead when he moved to Los Angeles...but because I love the Sex Pistols and without them, the Polkaholics may not have ever happened I invite you to read this horrible tale or greed.

Johnny Rotten or
John Lydon
has really sold-out now. Ack!!

A big thank you!

A big thank you goes out to Ms Lis for all of her help in getting this blog off of the ground. Vist her site and buy her a drink!

Saturday February 7 - DANK Fox Valley Annual Fasching Dance at the Batavia
VFW Hall, 7pm 645 River Road, (RT. 25) Batavia; call Maria at (630)232-0099 for details and advance tickets

What the heck is Fasching? Good question - it's basically the German version of Mardi Gras, and so it is a super great time for eating, drinking, dressing up, and POLKA! In other words, NONSTOP FUN! This
event is billed as a "Lumpen Ball" (Hobo's Ball) so be sure wear the best of your "Wurst" cloths. There
will be prizes for the "Best" of the "Wurst" costumes, so of course leisure suits, polyester, plaid and polka dots are all highly recommended attire. We'll be playing our untraditional oom-pa-pow from approximately 8pm until midnight, so why not join us for this most extraordinary night in Batavia. This kind of party just doesn't happen enough!

I finally did it!

I finally have a place to publish all of the wild and crazy polka photos that I've been taking instead of filling up in-boxes.
I plan on putting up information that I find to be of a fun nature that pertains to my experiences as a member of the Polkaholics.

Enjoy!
Jolly James
