Introduction

The Polkaholics were honored to be a part of this wonderul event.
For 13 years, the ABC7 Jim Gibbons 5K Run, 3K Walk & Survivors' Strut has proven itself as a landmark race in the Chicagoland area and is a major fundraiser for the Leukemia Research Foundation (LRF). Each year on the third Thursday in June, more than 2,500 participants gather along Chicago's downtown lakefront to run, walk and raise funds in search of a cure for leukemia and lymphoma. This CARA-registered race is currently divided into three events: the Men's 5K Run, the Women's 5K Run and a non-competitive 3K Walk/Survivors' Strut. A post-race party immediately follows the run/walk. Participants enjoy food, refreshments and live music, and have the opportunity to visit the many sponsor tents on the race site. An awards ceremony begins at 7:30 where the top three male and female runners are awarded cash prizes.
