Oktoberfest in May!

The Polkaholics will be playing a FREE "Oktoberfest in May" show this Thursday May 8 at Prost (2566 N Lincoln Ave, between Fullerton and Diversey, phone: 773 880-9900), where it is Oktoberfest all year round!  A 40 ft row of imported rustic tables, the infamous 2 liter beer Boot - Munich has never seemed closer.  We'll be starting around 8pm and playing three full sets of our insane oom-pah-POW to make this one Thursday night you won't want to miss!
polka ON!

Polka on The Loop- WLUP

Wow! The first weekend of May will be an eXtreme Polkarific one! For starters will be playing live on the air on The Johnny B. show during the 9am hour on Friday May 2nd. We have a special version of Fanny Shake- among other treats- so be sure to tune in, just tune your radio to 97.9 FM WLUP this Friday. Not near a radio? Well hell you can listen on-line as well!

The Polka Madness will then work it's way over to Quencher's in Chicago on Friday evening for 3 sets of "People Pleasing Polka"! So if you missed us on the radio in the morning come and see and hear us play live in the evening! It's a FREE show and starts at 10:00 pm.

BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE!! On Saturday May 3rd (yes a few scant hours after our Quencher's show ends) we will be performing on the Stawski Distributors float in the Polish Constitution Day Parade. The best place to watch is near Buckingham Fountain...people start lining up around 7:30 am. Go to their web site for more details as well as a map of the parade route. IF you arrive early maybe you can ride on the float with us? Or hell at least participate in a liquid breakfast with us.

In years past we've all suffered injuries while riding the float- hey it's not called eXtreme Polka for nothing! What will happen this year? Will Dandy Don break his leg? Will Action Jackson tear some ligaments? Will I, Jolly James, spill my beer?? Well there is only way to find out!

See you there

Razor and Di Polka Video

It's the Razor and DI Polka!!

We played live on WLUW 88.7 FM in Chicago on April 19th, 2008. I made this video from the pictures and video that I took while we were there. Enjoy!!

Chicago Public Radio: Polkaholics Story

‘Happy Music’ is Disappearing
A musical form thats the butt of many jokes is on the verge of dying off. It’s the polka. Some local bands are working hard to get it taken seriously, and to save the art form.

Polkaholics World Domination!

So a lot has been happening in the Polkaholics world as of late. For starters we recorded 3 new songs last February/March, one of which was played on The Eric and Kathy show on WTMX 101.9FM in Chicago for Saint Pat's Day.

The Razor and Die Polka is being played on my all time favorite radio station in the world WLUW 88.7 FM, Chicago (you can listen on-line at wluw.org) This was the second song we recorded in February/March-for the Razor and Die show. They asked to record a theme song for their show and we did, and they love it! We will be playing on their show on April 19th at noon- so listen in.

I mean it when I say it's my all time favorite radio station. Where else can you hear The Penthouse Sweets, Barr, The Unicorns, The Firery Furnaces, The Krinkles, Organ Wolf, Flameshovel, Melvins, The Methadones, Holy Roman Empire, My Left Arm, Janus, Plane, Apartment, The Dragon Girls, The Drapes, The M's.....all on the same station?? You can't!  WLUW is a community owned radio station that not only plays indie music but gospel, bluegrass, reggae, soul, rap, death metal and most of it is by bands that you will not find for sale at Best Buy or Wal-Mart.

The 3rd song we recorded was for The On The Waterfront Festival that is held each summer in Rockford, IL. We have played this event twice, and each time we performed this song and they asked us for a recording of it. Perhaps we will be asked back again?

Listen to us perform on the Jonathon Brandmier Show on The Loop WLUP 97.9 FM  Chicago, on Friday May 2nd at 8:45am to 9:00am. Johnny B. is a radio legend and we are very excited to play on his show.

WBEZ 91.5 FM Chicago Public Radio has put together a story about Polka music in Chicago and they were nice enough to interview The Polkaholics for the story. Dandy Don, Action Jackson and myself met with reporter Lynette Kalsnes on Monday and talked about our views of polka music- it was a lot of fun! She also came out and recorded a show at Lincoln Square lanes. When I find out when this is going to air I'll let ya all know.

In July we are taking our eXtreme brand of polka music to Germany! That's right- GERMANY! If all goes as planned we will be playing 3 dates with two very cool eXtreme polka bands. All of the details are being worked out now, but so far it appears to be a go and we are very excited about it.

If you can't catch us in Germany in July (keep you those fingers crossed that this actually happens) or if yer radio is busted, come and watch us play on May 2nd (same day as the Johnny B show) at Quencher's Saloon in Chicago at 10pm, and then get yer hung over ass up early on Saturday May 3rd and go to Grant Park (Columbus Drive) in downtown Chicago for the Polish Constitution Day Parade and cheer us on as we play on a moving float, driven by a drunk a Polish person. Should be a hoot!

And what could be better than a Half-Way-To-Oktoberfest show in May? That is right folks on Thursday May 8th we'll be bringing our oohm-pa-POW music to Prost, on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago, where it is Oktoberfest all year round.  A 40 ft row of imported rustic tables, the infamous 2 liter beer Boot.  Munich has never seemed closer. What goes better with beer than crazy insane eXtreme Polka music than food? Patrons will not go hungry with their delicious menu consisting of the most authentic German fare the neighborhood has to offer. Spatzle, Schnitzel, Sauerkraut, Sausage and their signature 15-inch hot Pretzel grace the menu and satisfy those looking for a delicious, affordable meal. We will be kicking out the Polka James from 7pm until 10pm. This is a new place for us so please come out an support live music in Chicago.

Does this Look Green to You Two?

Had to get up at 3:30am today to get ready for the Eric and Kathy show...I am wiped out! It was worth it however. Nothing like playing polka live on the air (to an audience of potential thousands!) in front of a live audience, all of whom were dressed in green for St. Pat's day- and a few were even enjoying a frosted barley pop at 5:00 am.
Great way to start the day!
Polka and beer!
We played the Eric & Kathy Polka as well as the St. Patrick's Day Polka (check it out on myspace).
Thanks to everyone at WTMX for having us perform today, thank you to everyone that was sinning along and gave us all of the compliments- even though you were all there to see Pat Manahon from Train it was nice that everyone was so receptive to us.
The Southside Irish band “Men In Kilts” were awesome as well!! Check them out if you get the chance.

Hopefully a few listeners will come out to see us play tomorrow night at Lincoln Square Lanes- it’s FREE.

So what do you think if the new design?? I am not sure if I like it or not so give me some feedback.

Saint Pat Polka!

Tune into WTMX  for the Eric and Kathy show this coming Friday morning to hear the Polkaholics play live on the air with Pat Monahan of Train. It happens at 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park on March 14th! If you are over 21 and are up at 5am and feel like seeing it all go down come on out.

If you do not want to get up at the ass crack of dawn then come out and see us play live at one of our favorite places -Lincoln Square Lanes- on Saturday for FREE...starts at 10pm.
